Supports for our students during fasts
Many members of our community, across many faiths, undergo fasts during the Spring months as part of their devotional celebrations. We understand and appreciate that the middle school years are often the first time young people take part in these important family events.
Fasting during the school day, especially when young bodies are growing and learning, can be challenging and so we wanted to offer all of our Bulldogs some additional resources to help at school:
- Students are always welcome to remain in the Commons or outdoor dining spaces during the lunchtime and socialize with their friends. If, however, they find this challenging on a particular day they may go to the counseling center for a quiet space
- Should your student desire an alternative location for a quiet and reflective space through the day, or if they are finding any particular time of day difficult in class, then we encourage them to contact their teacher or student counselor.
- As usual, when on the school grounds, if a student feels even slightly unwell they should let someone at school know and (if necessary) ask the nearest adult to help them to the Health Room. They can easily contact you from there. Our nurse and Health Room Assistant are sensitive to the desire of students not to break a fast, whenever possible, and will keep them safe until families can decide the best next steps.
We are keen to partner with our community, and encourage families to let the counseling team know if there are any other ways we can support any of our students while they are at school.
