Video: Liberty Band Teacher Collaborates with ISD to Spread to the Joy of Music

Since last September, Liberty High band teacher Jared Tanner has been creating and posting a video series called “Tunes with Mr. Tanner.” In each video, he collaborates with other ISD staff members to record and mix a cover version of a popular song. The guest performers sing — and some play an instrument — while Mr. Tanner fills in on guitar, bass, keyboard, percussion, trumpet, backing vocals and other assorted accompaniments.

Jared says he started the project because he wanted to highlight his colleagues from different departments at Liberty High and show that singing and making music can be for everyone. It was also a chance for him to learn and practice production skills such as recording, editing, mixing and video editing.

Most of the videos feature Liberty staff, but some have also included staff from other ISD schools. This week, he posted the newest video, a cover of Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day,” featuring music teachers from several other schools around the district.

The song includes Beaver Lake Middle School band teacher Mike Murphy on bass; Jared Tanner on guitar, trumpet and backing vocals; Challenger Elementary music teacher Kevin Proudfoot on keyboard; Maywood Middle and Liberty High choir teacher Robin Wood on lead vocals; and Apollo Elementary music teacher Margaret Brinkerhoff on flute and backing vocals. Kick back, have a listen and let the talents of these ISD teachers make your day bit more lovely.
